SongShare

About & privacy

Just music. No accounts.

SongShare is a small, self-hosted place where one musician shares their songs. You can listen, read the lyrics, download, and comment without signing up for anything.

What gets stored

  • A random anonymous cookie. When you press play, your browser gets a random identifier so a replay within 30 minutes isn't counted twice. Only a scrambled (HMAC) version of it is stored, and it isn't linked to who you are.
  • Play and download counts. A play is counted after about 30 seconds of actual listening (or half of a short song). These counts are approximate and are only used to show how many times a song has been played.
  • Comments. The name and text you post are public. Comments can be moderated or removed by the site owner. A scrambled form of your IP address is kept for up to 30 days to fight spam; the raw address is never stored.

What doesn't happen

No third-party analytics, ads, tracking pixels or social widgets. Nothing is loaded from other websites.

Unlisted songs

Some songs are shared through a secret link instead of appearing in the library. Anyone who has that link can listen, so treat it as private-ish, not password protected.
